Happy 200th Birthday Abe Lincoln, February 12, 2009

The City of Taunton is commemorating the Bicentennial of our 16th President on Thursday evening, February 12, 2009 at 7:00 p. m. at the Old Colony Historical Society. I chairn the city's Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The evening will include a presentation by Charles A. Thayer, M. D. on Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address, a presentation by the African-American Club of Taunton High School on the Emancipation Proclamation, a display of about a quarter of a ton of pennies raised to help support the families of veterans and troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, distribution of the special bicentennial issue of the penny being released by the mint that day, and a birthday cake for the singing of "Happy Birthday" to Abe.
